Wakley iwakley@msn.com April 16, 2006, 10:09 pm The Dalles Chronicle, November 1, 2005 Richard Allen “Dick” Carroll, 62, died at his home in Camas on Oct. 28, 2003. He was born in Camas on Sept. 29, 1943. He served in the military from 1961 to 1965 in the U.S. Air Force. He worked on his brother Dwayne’s 640-acre farm near Hermiston, raising and hauling alfalfa hay from 1965 to 1968. He became an electrician at what was then Crown Zellerbach paper mill in Camas and served as a maintenance electrician until his retirement in December of 1998. He and his wife, Janice, first met in 1983 and were married on Aug. 14, 1994. In recent years he enjoyed prospecting and was an active volunteer with the American Red Cross including 9/11 support efforts on Ground Zero in New York. Survivors include his wife, Janice L. Carroll; sons, M. Scott Carroll, Brentwood, Calif., and Mark R. Carroll, Camas; daughter, Shannon C. Briones, Tigard; grandchildren, Jason, Jamie, Allison, Jade, Jake, Jayme, Kaylee and Logan; brothers, Samuel W. Carroll, Gallivants Ferry, S.C.; and Dwayne M. Carroll, Hermiston; sisters, Luella M. Roberts, The Dalles, and Clarice J. Stevens, Hermiston. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, Nov. 2, at 10 a.m. at the Washougal Cemetery. Viewing is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 1, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Straub’s Funeral Home in Camas. Memorials may be made to the American Red Cross, Vancouver Chapter, 3114 E. Fourth Plain Blvd., Vancouver, WA 98661, or Kaiser Hospice, 2701 NW Vaughn St., Suite 140, Portland OR 97210.
