The Dalles Weekly Reminder,  June 5, 1987
     Magdalena L. Carpenter, 62, died at her home here May 28.  She was a 
resident of The Dalles for 31 years.
     Mrs. Carpenter was born in Portland Aug. 22, 1924.  She married her 
husband, Donald, in 1946.  Mrs. Carpenter was active in many organizations in 
the community, including being a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, past 
president of St. Peter Altar Society, past board member of the Salvation Army, 
past Republican precinct committee woman, past member of the Navy League of 
the United States, member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, past president of Mid-
Columbia Medical Center Auxiliary, past president of the Newcomers Club, and a 
member of the Weed Beaters Garden Club, benefactor and patron of the Parry 
Center for Children in Portland, and a teacher for the Confraternity of 
Christian Doctrine.
     She is survived by her husband, Dr. Donald Carpenter of The Dalles; a 
son, Alan Baird Carpenter of Boulder, Colo.; two daughters, Penelope Carpenter 
Shephard of Crown Point, Ind., and Rebecca Anne Carpenter of Bend; one 
grandson, Christopher Alan Carpenter of Gresham and one granddaughter, Whitney 
Gray Shephard of Crown Point; three sisters, numerous nieces and nephews.
     Recitation of the Rosary was held at St. Peter Catholic Church, followed 
by Mass of Christian Burial.  The Rev. Martin Quigley officiated.  Burial 
followed at St. Peter Catholic Cemetery.  Memorials are suggested to The 
Dalles branch of the Salvation Army.  Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home 
is in charge of arrangements.
