He was born July 14, 1936 in Grants Pass, to Walter James and Theresa Alice “Pat” (Wideman) Cannon and grew up there. After attending Grants Pass High School he served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954 to 1958, working as a crew leader in the fire department on the flight line at Travis AFB and in French Morocco. He worked in the lumber industry in Roseburg, and as a utility lineman for Pacific Power and Light and on television cable installations in southern Oregon and Seattle, but lived most of his life in the Springfield- Eugene area. He is survived by his daughter Jody Cook of Aloha; son Walter J. Cannon of Springfield; his mother Pat Cannon of Grants Pass; brother Lynn D. Cannon of Medford; sister Jewel Coleman of Grants Pass, and five grandchildren. Graveside services with military honors will accompany his interment at Eagle Point National Cemetery in Eagle Point on Friday, June 18, at 2 p.m. Arrangements are by Columbia Cremation & Burial.
