Wakley iwakley@msn.com April 16, 2006, 11:02 pm The Dalles Chronicle, November 23, 2005 Richard “Dick” Chester Campbell, 84, a lifelong resident of The Dalles, died at his home on Monday, Nov. 21, 2005. He was born Jan. 13, 1921 in The Dalles, the only son among six children to Chester and Esther (Cushing) Campbell. He graduated from St. Mary’s Academy High School in The Dalles in 1939. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy shortly after the attacks on Pearl Harbor. He married Lucille M. Nordquist on Aug. 24, 1949 in The Dalles. He was a self- employed building contractor who built many custom homes and commercial buildings in the Mid-Columbia area. He was a life member of The Dalles Elks Club, St. Peter Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was a past president of Western Little League and served on the Carpenters Apprenticeship Board, Mid-Columbia Builders Association and the Wasco County Planning Commission. He enjoyed his grandchildren, was a wonderful gardener who enjoyed his vegetable garden, traveling with his wife and friends, the Tuesday Night Group and in the later years, watching Nascar races. He is survived by his children, Kay and her husband Dan Ericksen and Kim and her husband Jess Birge, all of The Dalles; Kelly and his wife Deb Campbell, Ione; his grandchildren, Michelle and her husband Russ Harrington, Benton City, Wash.; Sarah and her husband Jason Keller, Hood River; Jennifer and her husband Armando Heredia, The Dalles; Richard and Dalton Campbell, Ione; Derek and Nicola Campbell, Virginia Beach, Va.; his great grandchildren, Katie and Michael Harrington, Benton City; Campbell Keller, Hood River; Naomi Heredia, The Dalles; and Cameron Campbell, Virginia Beach, Va.; sisters Rose Ellen Wagenblast, Mary Jo Yarnell and many lifelong friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille, his sisters, Maxine Charles, Margaret Byers and his infant sister, Rose Eileen. Viewing visitation will be held at Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home on Friday, Nov. 25, from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 25, at The Dalles St. Peter Catholic Church with Rev. Todd Unger officiating. Interment will follow at St. Peter Catholic Cemetery. Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral home is in care arrangements. Memorials may be made to a charity of choice and the family would like to thank the care givers and residents of Mill Creek Point for their care and friendship.
