The Dalles Weekly Reminder, Sepetember 15, 1995
     Veva Maude Caldwell, 89, The Dalles, died at her home on Thursday, Sept. 
7, 1995.
     She was born March 7, 1906, in The Dalles, the second of four children to 
Richard and Grace (Graves) French.  She grew up and graduated from high school 
here in 1924.
     She married Olin Clarence Caldwell on Oct. 10, 1927 in The Dalles.  She 
worked at Edward C. Pease Grocery and Clothing Store until the late 1930s.
     She was a homemaker and had been a very active member of the Evangelical 
Church, including having served as church treasurer.  She also was a member of 
the Degree of Honor, Wasco County Pioneer Association and The Dalles Women's 
Bowling Association where she had served as league secretary and was inducted 
into the Bowling Hall of Fame.
     She is survived by her four children:  Richard O. Caldwell, Colleen 
Fredrickson, Jackie and her husand, Paul Van Ness and Bob Caldwell and his 
wife, Mary, all of The Dalles; sister, Erma Lemke, The Dalles; 11 
grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her 
husband, Olin, in Nov. 1976; sister, Faye French; brother, George French and 
stepbrother, Carl Thomlinson.
     Graveside services were held at The Dalles IOOF Cemetery on Saturday, 
Sept. 9 with Pastor Tim Clemenson officiating.
     Spencer, Libby and Powell had care of arrangements.
     Memorials:  Evangelical Church Memorial Fund, in care of Spencer, Libby 
and Powell Funeral Home, 1100 Kelly Ave., The Dalles.
