     Idessa Lorene “Bea” Byers, 76, a resident of The Dalles, died Saturday, 
July 10, 2004 at her home. 
     She was born Feb. 5, 1928, in Springfield, Mo., to Earl Thomas and Ola 
Ann (Eaves) Gilliam and moved with her family to California where she grew up. 
Following her graduation from Lindsey High School in Lindsey, Calif., she 
married Robert E. Byers in 1947; they were later divorced. She came to The 
Dalles in 1947 and worked as a grocery checker for several local markets, 
including Flaman’s Hilltop Market and Albertson’s. She was a member of the 
Loyal Order of Moose and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 2126 in The 
Dalles and also belonged to the Retail Clerk’s Union.
     She enjoyed league bowling, caring for her home and garden, and spending 
time with her family and friends.
     Survivors include her daughters and their families, Cynthia and Daniel 
Wardwell, Gresham; Denica and Earl Huff, Anchorage, Alaska; and grandchildren 
Bryce Huff, Tonya Wardwell, and Jeff Wardwell and his wife, Huia. Also 
surviving is a niece, Linda Jones in Lemon Cove, Calif.
     A gathering in celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, July 15, 
at the Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge at Seventh and Walnut Streets from 2 - 
4 p.m. Friends are invited to come and share the memories and fellowship that 
intertwined her life with so many others. Memorial contributions may be made 
to Hospice of The Gorge, 715 Myrtle Street, The Dalles, OR 97058.      
Arrangements are by Columbia Cremation & Burial.
