She was born August 18, 1904, in Falls City, Polk County, Ore., the only child to Samuel Barton and Effie M. (Ireland) Tetherow. The family moved by wagon to Kahlotus, Wash., when Dorothy was an infant. When she was nine years old the family moved to Buchanan, east of Burns, before settling on a farm in the Petersburg district near The Dalles in 1915. She attended the one room school at Petersburg and graduated from The Dalles High School in 1922. Dorothy married Cecil Robert Byers on June 14, 1924, in The Dalles and they lived and farmed in Petersburg. They built View Point Trailer Court in 1953, which is still owned and operated by the Byers family. Dorothy was a member First Christian Church, Cherry Park Grange and Pythian Sisters. She is survived by her sons, Robert Byers and Gene Byers and his wife, Barbara, all of The Dalles; grandchildren and their spouses, Cynthia and Dan Wardwell, Portland; Denica and Earl Huff, Anchorage, Alaska; Steve and Monica Byers; Michael and Annette Byers; Daniel and Keri Byers, all of The Dalles; Diane and Scott Lepinski, Dufur and William Byers, Pasco, Wash.; 13 great grandchildren. Viewing visitation will be held at Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home from 9 a.m. to non on Monday, Dec. 29. Graveside services will be held at Three Mile IOOF Cemetery at 1 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 29, with Rev. Mike Wilson officiating. Remembrances may be made to charity of choice.
