     Maxine Bennett, 87, a resident of The Dalles, died at her home Sunday, 
June 4, 2006.
     She was born in Fenton, Wyo., on June 13, 1919, the fourth of seven 
children to Harry W. and Louisa (VanBenthuysen) Thayer. She was raised on 
Pitchfork Ranch in Meeteetse, Wyo., where she graduated from Meeteetse High 
School in 1937. 
     She married Clifton Bennett in Redlodge, Mont., on September 24, 1938.    
She lived in Alaska for 32 years before moving to The Dalles in 1986. She 
enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and playing cards.
     She is survived by her husband, Clifton Bennett, The Dalles; her five 
children, Roger Bennett and his wife Alinda Bennett, Vancouver, Wash.; Jeanne 
Doty and her husband Ken, Troy, Ala.; Roberta Eide and her husband Sterling, 
Kenai, Alaska; Nancy Laabs and Jim Breun, Palmer, Alaska; and Clifton “Rodney” 
Bennett and his wife Dona, Homer, Alaska; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grand 
children and one great-great-granddaughter.
     Private cremation was held at The Dalles Win-Quatt Crematory with 
Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
     Memorials may be made to Salvation Army, PO Box 380, The Dalles, OR 97058.
