The Dalles Weekly Reminder, September 22, 1995
     Alvina Morris Bennett, 86, The Dalles, died at a local care center on 
Sept. 9, 1995.
     She was born in Pinkneyville, Ill. on Nov. 19, 1908, the sixth of 12 
children to Henry and Anna (Pick) Schroeder.  She grew up and graduated from 
high school in Chester, Ill., then attended business school.
     She married Floyd Morris in 1933, and they lived in Sparta, Ill., then 
Chester, before moving to The Dalles in 1948.  She later married Ross Bennett 
in 1966.
     She worked at J.C. Penney's for many years, then as billing 
clerk/receptionist for the PUD.  She was elected and served as Wasco County 
treasurer from 1960 until her retirement on Dec. 31, 1971.
     She was a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church.  She served as 
president of Business and Professional Women, Faith Lutheran Women's League, 
state and national officer of County Treasurers' Associations, and for many 
years was secretary of the Wasco County Democratic Central Comittee.
     She is survived by her children:  Laura and her husband, Jim Comini; 
LaVern "Bernie" and wife, Janice Morris, and Walter Morris; four 
grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Ted Schroeder of Anna, Ill. 
and sister-in-law, Minnie Schroeder of Chester, Ill. and many nieces and 
nephews.
     She was preceded in death by her husband, Ross, in 1988.
     Services were at Faith Lutheran Church on Sept. 12, Pastor Lawrence Locke 
officiating.
     Memorials:  Faith Lutheran Church or Columbia Basin Care Foundation in 
care of Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home, 1100 Kelly Ave., The Dalles.
