Irene L. Belshe, a resident of The Dalles, died at Mid-Columbia Medical Center 
on Thursday, July 27, 1995.  She was 81.

Irene was born Aug. 4, 1913 in Grass Valley, the seventh child of 13 to 
Benjamin and Minnie May (Ashley) Payne.  She grew up in Sherman County.

Irene married Halbert L. Belshe on Aug. 12, 1933 in Goldendale, Wash.  They 
lived in Sherman County for a few years, before moving to The Dalles.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed crocheting (especially afghans) and crafting.  
She was a member of the Lady Eagles.

Survivors include her daughter, Frances A. Belshe Lewis; grandsons:  Michael 
Duane and Tony Fay Lewis; great grandchildren:  Brian Anthony and Tiffany Ruth 
Lewis, all of Portland; brothers and sisters:  B. W. ‘Benny’ Payne, Jane Rust, 
Gladys Fulkerson, all of The Dalles; Frank Payne and Betty Emerson, both of 
Yuma, AZ., and Doris Twiggs, Spokane, WA.; numerous nieces and nephews.

Viewing visitation will be at Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home on Monday, 
July 31 from 2-7 p.m. and Tuesday from 8-10 a.m.  Graveside services will be 
Tuesday, Aug. 1 at 11 a.m. at Parklawn Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Senior Center, sent in care of Spencer, Libby & 
Powell Funeral Home, 1100 Kelly Ave., The Dalles, OR 97058.
