     Robert “Bob” Harold Beldin, 81, a longtime resident of Lyle, died at the 
local hospital in The Dalles on Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2006.
     He was born Oct. 5, 1924 in Crete, Neb., the second of three children to 
Albert and Lydia (Burkey) Beldin. He grew up in Crete, and attended schools 
there. After high school he joined the U.S. Navy and served during WWII. 
     When he was honorably discharged from the Navy, he went back to school to 
receive his GED.
     He married Elaine LaVonne Steiner on Jan. 6, 1946 in Crete. They moved 
out west to Downey, Calf., where he worked as a paper hanger, then to Umatilla 
for five years and finally came to reside in Lyle in 1956. While he and his 
family lived in Lyle, he worked at The Dalles Dam as a hydroelectric mechanic.
     He is survived by his wife, Elaine “Bobbe” Beldin, Dallesport; his 
daughters, Diane Logue and her husband, Dave, Lyle, Donna Walker, Dallesport; 
his son, Robert Beldin and his wife, Wendy, Elma, Wash.; nine grandchildren, 
20 great-grandchildren and his sister, Jackie Kennedy, of California. He was 
preceded in death by his brother, when he was a child. 
     Celebration of life services will be held at the Lyle High School 
Gymnasium at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 26. Private cremation was held at The 
Dalles Win-Quatt Crematory with Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home in care 
of arrangements. 
     He made it his life’s work to be supportive of his community’s youth. A 
needy athlete could always go to him for shoes, a ride or a substitute dad. To 
continue this, memorial contributions may be made to Lyle High School in 
memory of Robert H. Beldin.
