The Dalles Weekly Reminder, April 12, 1984
     Ivan C. Bechtold,78, a resident of The Dalles since 1952, died at a local 
nursing home on Wednesday, April 11.

     He was born Sept. 4, 1905 in Hartline, Wash.

     He had worked as a construction engineer and worked for the Corps of 
Engineers during the building of The Dalles and John Day dams.

     Mr. Bechtold was a member of Mt. Hood Lodge No. 157, AF&AM and The Dalles 
Country Club.

     Survivors include his wife, Virginia, The Dalles; two daughters, Gayle 
Wageman, The Dalles; and Sandra McGrath, Long Beach, Calif.; four cousins, 
Dorothy Rosenberg, Seattle; Edward Young, Yosemite, Calif.; Paul Bechtold, 
Portland, and Glen Bechtold; an aunt, Mildred Bechtold, Portland; four 
grandchildren and one great-grandson.

     Masonic rites were conducted Friday, April 13 at the IOOF Parklawn 
Cemetery.  Smith Callaway Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

     Memorials may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children in 
care of George Specht.
