Wakley iwakley@msn.com May 21, 2006, 10:05 pm The Dalles Weekly Reminder, September 29, 1983 Shirley Jean Bates, 46, a resident of The Dalles for 15 years and formerly a resident of Klamath Falls, died Friday at the hospital following a sudden illness. She was born Feb. 9, 1937 in Dereks, Ark. Mrs. Bates worked at Continental Bakery in The Dalles since 1975 and was the store manager at the time of her death. She was a member of the Chenowith Baptist Church, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Union Pacific Old Timers Club and the Eagles Lodge. Survivors include her husband, William S., The Dalles; four daughters, Kim Trilling, Vancouver, Wash., and Kay Twidwell, Mary Minton and Virgie Elaine Minton, all of The Dalles; a stepson, Robert, and two stepdaughters, Stacie and Kristin Bates, all of Boardman; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Nash, Klamath Falls; a sister, Glenda Carlson, Sumner, Wash.; three grandchildren, Stephen, Bryan and Jason. Graveside services were Tuesday at The Dalles IOOF Cemetery with the Rev. Virgil Savage officiating. Honorary pallbearers were John Phelps, Doug Macnab, Art Bruhes, and Floyd Ferrell. Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Memorials are suggested to the Oregon Heart or Lung Association.
