Wakley iwakley@msn.com December 28, 2006, 6:55 pm The Dalles Chronicle, July 6, 2006 Christopher James Barker-Weiters, 36, died June 29, 2006, at Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland. He was born March 10, 1970 in Modesto, Calif., the first born of James Lee Barker and Linda Ray Pierce Barker. When he was about a year old, his parents separated and he went with his mother to live with his maternal great-grandparents, Eddie and Katherine Weiters, in The Dalles. A few years later Eddie Weiters adopted him and raised him as the son he never had. He went to all his school years in The Dalles, finishing high school there. During high school, he took guitar lessons and was the leader of his own rock band. After high school, Shelly Catlin became his girlfriend and moved in with him upstairs in the big house that his great grandparents owned. Kassandra Katherine Catlin was born to this couple on April 27, 1991. He enjoyed art, music, and novel writing. He worked at grocery stores and had his own landscaping business at one time. He is survived by his daughter, Kassandra Catlin; father, James Lee Barker; and grandfather Robert B. Fish, Modesto, Calif.; two sisters in Modesto; special friends Larry Welch, Bill Welch, Larry Welch Sr. and Bernice Welch; several aunts, uncles, nephews and nieces in Oregon and Washington. He was preceded in death by his mother Linda Ray Pierce, Dec. 22, 1995. A viewing will be held on Friday, July 7, at Spencer, Libby, and Powell Funeral Home from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Funeral services are under the direction of Spencer, Libby & Powell of The Dalles, and will be held Saturday, July 8, at 1 p.m. Interment is to follow at the Threemile Road Cemetery. Spencer, Libby, and Powell Funeral Home is in care of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Alcoholics Anonymous, (541) 296-2299.
