He was born June 15, 1943 in Hood River to Eldon and Lyndall (Utley) Baker. In his younger days he worked on oil rigs as a pipe fitter. Later he worked for Martin Marietta Aluminum in The Dalles as an extruder operator for 15 years and also for 12 years as an equipment operator for Boeing. He was an avid sturgeon fisherman and hunter and an expert outdoorsmen and boatman. Survivors include his wife, Bonnie (Beam) Baker, Appleton; daughter, Sheila Faulk, and sons, Marty Dean Baker and Sammy Baker, all of Louisiana; stepson, Rick Markgraf, Kent, Wash.; stepdaughter, Becky Baker, Wahkiakus, Wash.; stepson Marty Markgraf, Appleton; foster son, Harold Gilman, Portland; brother, Terry Baker, California; and mother, Lyndall Loken, The Dalles; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Tuesday. Dec. 16, at 1 p.m. at the Eagles Lodge in The Dalles. Gardner Funeral Home’s Columbia River Crematory in White Salmon handled arrangements.
