The Dalles Weekly Reminder, May 14, 1982
     Verle John Baker, 81, a resident of The Dalles since 1946, died May 4 at 
the local hospital.
     He was born Jan. 25, 1901 in Clifton Hills, Mo.
     Mr. Baker was a veteran of World War II, and a member of the Air Force 
Association.  He was also a member of the National Rifle Association.
     Survivors include his wife, Lucy Baker, The Dalles; three sons, Thomas 
Baker, Alton, Il.; Robert Baker, Portland, and John Baker, San Rafael, Calif.; 
one daughter, Jacqueline Watkins, Ogden, Utah; 10 grandchildren, six great-
grandchildren, two sisters, Peggy Telford, The Dalles and Opal Foidel, 
Clackamas.
     Graveside funeral services were at The Dalles Odd Fellows Cemetery May 7 
with the Rev. James Hazlett officiating.  Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home 
was in charge of arrangements.
     Memorials are suggested to The Dalles General Hospital scholarship fund.
