The Dalles Weekly Reminder, December 1, 1995
     Lynn LaDelle Baker, 87, The Dalles, died at a local care center on 
Sunday, Nov. 26, 1995.
     He was born Nov. 18, 1908 in Independence, Mo., to Lemuel Vickers and 
Lillian Daisey (Mulvany) Baker.  He grew up in Western Oregon.
     He enlisted in the US Coast Guard on July 26, 1926, at Winchester Bay and 
retired 30 years later as a Lieutenant Commander, having served in Oregon, 
Washington and Alaska on ships and at shore bases.
     Upon his retirement from the Coast Guard, he was employed with Safeco 
Insurance in Seattle for 12 years.  After retiring, he was a "snowbird" in 
Arizona and moved to The Dalles in 1983.
     He married Pearl Carrie Messinger on Oct. 27, 1945 in Seattle.
     He was baptized in the World Wide Church of God on April 5, 1971.  He 
enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and was well-known for his Indian-style baked 
salmon.
     He is survived by his son, Conrad L. "Bill" Baker of Edmonds, Wash.; step-
daughter, Wilma L. Conley of Boise, Idaho; son-in-law, Gerald Kolb of 
Ryderwood, Wash.; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three great-
great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law:  Jerry and Freda Webb and 
Vern Messinger, all of The Dalles, and Verna Hassfurder of Portland.  He was 
preceded in death by his wife, Pearl, on Aug. 3, 1994, and a step-daughter, 
Darlene Kolb on April 7, 1994.
     Services held at Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home Tuesday, Nov. 28 
with Joel Lillengreen officiating.  Private interment at The Dalles IOOF 
Cemetery.
     Memorials:  Oregon Lions Eye Bank, sent in care of Spencer, Libby and 
Powell Funeral Home, 1100 Kelly Ave., The Dalles.
