The Dalles Chronicle, November 12, 1991
     Effie Dexter Baird, a resident of The Dalles for the past 15 years, died 
Saturday, Nov. 9 at the hospital.  She was 90.
     Mrs. Baird was born Feb. 5, 1901 at Wallowa to Chauncey and Laura Dexter.
     Mrs. Baird married her husband, David R. Baird, on Oct. 6, 1928.  The 
couple farmed in the Olex area for many years, returning to The Dalles 15 
years ago to retire.  Mr. Baird preceded her in death in 1982.
     She was a legal secretary in The Dalles for many years.
     Mrs. Baird was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Azalea Rebekah 
Lodge, and had been active in the Mid-Columbia Medical Center Auxiliary for 
many years.
     Survivors include five sisters:  Myrtle Wedekind, The Dalles; Mabel 
Renken, The Dalles; Sarah Benjamin, Hood River; Esther Foster, St. Helens; 
Auranett DeBois, Portland; two brothers:  Fred Dexter, Madras; Edwin Dexter, 
Cathedral City, Calif.; several nieces and nephews.
     Memorial services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran churcch 
with Rev. Stan Rosengren officiating.  Mausoleum entombment will precede the 
memorial services.
     Memorials are suggested to the Mid-Columbia Medical Center Health 
Foundation or Zion Lutheran Church in care of Smith Callaway Chapel, which is 
in charge of all arrangements.
