She was born May 24, 1902 in Vancouver, Wash., the youngest of six children to Nirum Curtiss and Rozina Elizabeth (Terry) Rundle. She attended school through the eighth grade and then Normal School for two years in Ridgefield, Wash. She married George Arthur Lester in Vancouver, Wash., in 1919 after his return from the U.S. Army in World War I and they lived in the Odell area of the Hood River Valley. Myrtle moved to The Dalles in 1953. She worked for Ted Walker’s Dry Cleaners as a wool presser and silk finisher until the mid-80’s and then she worked for Model Laundry for several years. She was a member of the Methodist Church, The Dalles Garden Club, Teamster’s Union where she had served as secretary. She loved her family, treasured her cats and enjoyed gardening, crocheting and reading. She is survived by her daughter, Jacqueline Barclay, Beaverton; her sons, Patrick Lester, The Dalles; Lawrence and his wife, Faithe Lester, Port Orchard, Wash.; her granddaughters, DiAnne and her husband, Tom Wasson, The Dalles; Valerie Traum, Portland; Kimi Sue Isenberg, Beaverton; Karisa MacLachlan, Seattle, Wash.; Sharon Ann Lester, Salem; her grandsons, Bob Lester, Tigard; Michael Isenberg, Renton, Wash.; Derek Lester, Seattle, Wash.; Kevin Lester, Alaska; Frank Lester, Spokane. She was preceded in death by two sons, George Terrance Lester, 1929, John Samuel Lester 1992 and her daughter, Patricia Nadine Lester, 1927. Graveside memorial services will be held at Odd Fellows Cemetery on Cherry Heights Road at 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 28. Private cremation was held at The Dalles Win-quatt Crematory with Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
