Wakley iwakley@msn.com May 23, 2006, 10:52 am The Dalles Weekly Reminder, December 8, 1995 Elsie Rose Axtell, a former resident of Moro and The Dalles and currently of Beaverton, died Dec. 1, 1995 at a Portland hospital. She was 78. She was born Aug. 4, 1917, in Livermore, Calif., the third of four children born to Edward and Rose (George) Bettencourt. She grew up in Livermore. She married Wendell Perry Axtell on Dec. 9, 1939, in Danville, Calif. They moved to Lebanon, Oregon in 1946 and to Moro six years later. Following her husband's death, she moved to The Dalles and lived here until moving to Beaverton in 1990. Mrs. Axtell was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her family. She's survived by her son, Monte L. Axtell of Beaverton; her daughter, Connie Mae Hall of Medford; two grandchildren, Wendell Tamblyn of Marysville, Calif., and Richard Axtell of Beaverton; and her brother, Edward Bettencourt of Livermore. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wendell, in 1963, and a grandson, Greg Tamblyn, in 1994. Funeral services were held Dec. 5 at Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home with Rev. Karl J. Vercourteren officiating. Private interment was held at The Dalles IOOF cemetery.
