He was born June 16, 1934, in Tate, Ga., moved to The Dalles as a child and graduated from The Dalles High School. After high school, he served in the U.S. Air Force for six years and continued his military career with the National Guard. After his Air Force enlistment, he returned to The Dalles and worked for Clifford & Martin as a vending machine mechanic, retiring in the late 90’s after 34 years. He had been active with Eagles, Elks, and Moose Lodges, and enjoyed spending time with his wife and family. He is survived by his wife, Irene Erika (Bauer) Atkins, of The Dalles, whom he married on March 21, 1959, in Goldendale. He was preceded in death by one step-daughter, Joan Barber, in 1970. Graveside services will be held The Dalles Odd Fellows Cemetery on Cherry Heights Road on Wednesday, June 9, at 10 a.m. with Asa Jenson officiating. Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home is in care of arrangements.
