     Robert “Bob” Dale Ashley, 66, a longtime resident of Lane County, died of 
natural causes on Monday, Oct. 17, 2005 while on a fishing trip in The Dalles, 
with life-long friend John Martin and his dog Rock.
     He was born Aug. 29, 1939, in Brookville, Ind. He moved to Oregon as a 
child with dreams of fishing the McKenzie River. He grew up in the Eugene-
Springfield area, attending Pleasant Hill Grade School and graduating from 
Springfield High School. 
     He was an outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, boating, photography, 
life and his family. He was a longtime pipe layer in the construction business 
and retired from Eugene Sand & Gravel. 
     He was married Oct. 9, 2001 to Helen Jolene Ashley. 
     He is survived by his wife, Jolene; his daughters and their husbands, 
Kelly and Ken Leest, Roseburg; Shelly and Mark Stuart, Yacolt, Wash.; 
stepchildren, Jeanette and Michael Reece, Eugene; Harold Cates, Denver, Colo.; 
seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; his sister Phylis Nichols, 
Ridgecrest, Calif.; brother William Ashley, Springfield; step-brother Bob 
White, Veneta; and lifelong friends John and Debbie, Gus, and Brian. 
     He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Esther Ashley, 
Springfield; June and Kermit Jessen, Springfield; and a brother, Harold 
Ashley, Springfield.
     Private Cremation was held at the Dalles Win-quatt Crematory with 
Spencer, Libby, & Powell funeral home in care of arrangements. There will be a 
celebration of life with family and friends at his home on Saturday, Oct. 21, 
2005.
