She was born Sept. 11, 1922 in Louisville, Ky., the older of two children to Victor Vernon and Bertha Annetta (Hegenaver) Packwood. She grew up in Louisville and attended Christ The King School until the eighth grade and then graduated from Shawnee High School in 1939. She married Max Everett Archer June 4, 1949 in Louisville. He was a career U.S. Air Force serviceman and they lived at several locations. They were living in Tacoma, Wash., when he retired with the rank of major in 1968. They moved to The Dalles in 1971 where she worked for J.C. Penney. She was a member of V.F.W. Auxiliary and enjoyed reading, as well as volunteer work with the American Diabetes Association, Mid-Columbia Medical Center and the Oregon Veterans’ Home, where she had over 1,000 volunteer hours. She is survived by her children, Max E. Archer Jr. and his wife, Anne, Blaine, Wash., and David Scott Archer, The Dalles. She was preceded in death by her husband Max, in 2001. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Private cremation was held at The Dalles Win-quatt Crematory with Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
