He was born March 10, 1914 in Goldendale to Jesse G. and Rosetta May (Miller) Allyn. He graduated from Goldendale High School in 1933 and married Frances Korthase on June 6, 1933 at his parent's home in Goldendale. In 1944 the Allyns bought the Golden dairy farm just south of the the Klickitat County Fairgrounds and made their home there until moving to the Golden View Terrace apartments in August of 2003. He worked as a carpenter until after WWII when he and his wife opened an appliance store on Main Street where he and two hired men also did electrical work. He sold the appliance business in 1949 and bought John Trumbo’s building supply at Main and Chatfield, operating that business until 1957 when the economy worsened due to the Goldendale sawmill having burned down. Following the closure of the building supply business he again worked as a carpenter until 1969 when he and his wife along with daughter Marjorie and son- in-law Richard Arp opened A & A Building Supply. They were later joined in the business by their son Jim and son-in-law Roger Telford in an enlarged building which also featured sporting goods and housewares departments. He retired at age 62 and spent the rest of his life fishing gardening, and tinkering in his shops. Survivors include his wife Frances, daughters Jean and her husband Roy Smeltzer, Joan and her husband Roger Telford, Marjorie and her husband Ray La Fond, son Jim and wife Patti Allyn, all of whom live in Goldendale; grandchildren Diane Smeltzer of San Diego, CA, Larry Smeltzer of Marcus, Wash., Sherrill Basse of Arcelia, Mexico, Susan Powers of Bickleton WA, David Telford of Goldendale, Cindy Martin of Ellensburg, Randy Arp of Foley, Ala., Dale Arp of Seattle, Bryce Allyn of Olympia, 10 great-grandchildren, and special friends Dave and Kathy Hall of Goldendale and Richard Arp, Ocean Park Wash. He was preceded in death by his sister, Edna Anrig, in 1989. In accordance with his wishes no public services will be held; the family will observe private ceremonies of remembrance in conjunction with his interment at Mountain View Cemetery in Goldendale, Memorial contributions may be made to the Klickitat County Historical Society, c/o Denise Morris, P.O.
