The Dalles Chronicle, July 4, 2006
     Bernice Nancy “Nanny” Haynes Ackley, 96, a resident of The Dalles, died 
at a local care facility on June 29, 2006.

     She was born in Union, Ore. on March 17, 1909 to Christabel Warfield 
Haynes and Charles Haynes. 

     Bee was a very active horse-woman involved in the West Klickitat 
Sheriff’s Posse, 4-H of Skamania County, and a small horse ranch in Home 
Valley until moving to The Dalles in 1990.

     She is survived by her daughters, Betty Stulgis of Kalama, WA, and Bev 
Tuttle of The Dalles, OR; her grandchildren, Mike Knowles of Seattle, WA, 
Darla Knowles of Skykomish, WA, Kim Tuttle Deskin of White Salmon, WA, and 
Kasey Tuttle and Jodi Sauncy of The Dalles, OR; and five great-grandchildren.

     She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles O. Ackley; both of her 
parents; granddaughter, Cheryl Knowles; and great-grandson, Marcus Deskin.

     Her body has been donated to OHSU as per her wishes, and a private 
celebration of her life will be held in The Dalles. Spencer, Libby & Powell  
Funeral Home is in care of the arrangements.

     Memorials may be made to Hospice of The Gorge, PO Box 36, Hood River, OR 
97031.
