JESSE EATON DEAD AT PORTLAND Last night at University Park a man who is well-known throughout Eastern Oregon and an old pioneer of Sherman county, passed away at the home of his son, Edward Eaton. We refer to Jessie Eaton, whose almost sudden death will be a shock to his friends. He has been ill but a few days with erysipelas, but supposedly not seriously ill. A short telegram was received by Mr. Willerton early this morning and Mrs. Willerton left this afternoon for Portland, her brother, Ed, who has been at Wasco (Oregon) having gone down this morning. It is expected the body will be taken to Wasco for burial Monday. Jessie Eaton was born in Kentucky on March 21, 1826, and crossed the plains to Oregon with an ox team in 1846, being six months on the journey. He settled in Polk county and on July 18, 1850 was married to Miss Mary Burden, who survives him. They resided in Polk and Yamhill counties until the fall of 1863, when they came to The Dalles and wintered here. leaving in February 1864 for Sherman county, where he took up a claim about a mile from Wasco. He resided there until five years ago, when he went to University Park. To Mr. and Mrs. Eaton thirteen children were born, ten of whom survive him - Nathan, Jessie and George, of Wasco; Albert of this city; Edward, of Portland; Margaret Eaton, Mrs. Mary Willerton and Mrs. C.W. Barzee, of The Dalles; Mrs. Emma Siscel, of Portland, and Mrs. Laura Rayburn, of Everett, Washington. Written permission to reprint given by The Dalles Chronicle, The Dalles, Oregon
