Morning Oregonian October 11,1904
La Grande,Or.,Oct.10-(Special)- W.S.Barkely, one of the early pioneers of this 
city and of Uniion County, was found dead in his bed at an early hour this 
morning, the cause being heart disease. He was as well as usul when he 
retired, an din th enight, he moaned a few times,wakening his wife, who  
immediately clled assistance, but he died a moment later. He was 53 years of 
age, and leaves a widow,one daughter and three sons. he came ot La Granbe in 
1863
