All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/or/orfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Sheron Faynor nitwittwin@hotmail.com August 29, 2006, 10:42 pm Clackamas County News May 2,1921 Last survivor of Old Aurora Colny George Kraus,last surviving member of the trustees of the Old Aurora Colony,whose charter dated back to August 30,1844,died at his home in Aurora,Sunday,at the age of 79 years.Mr Kraus was among the younger of the trustees of the Aorora colony,who carved out homes in the wilderness and lived a contented life while the founder,Dr William Kell,was alive to direct their activities.Person who today recalled the early days of the colony said it was,perhaps,the most succesful experiment of it kind ever attempted in the United States.Mr Kraus was born in Pittsburgh September 8,1841,and came to Aurora from Bethel,Mo in the year 1863.In 1879 he married Elizabeth Giesy,chairman of the board of trustees of the colony.Besides his widow he is survived by two sons,Arthur W. and John R.
