All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/or/orfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Sheron Faynor nitwittwin@hotmail.com October 22, 2006, 12:44 pm Sherwood Journal July 3,1914 Oregon Pioneer and Indian Fighter Passes Away Death has robbed Oregon of another sturdy pioneer,distinguished citizen,and INdian war veteran.Robinson Ford,known to hundreds of the trail blazers,passed away at his late home at Bentonville,Arkansas,June 18 Few of the Oregon Pioneers have served with greater distinction in the battles with the Indians in the early days than Robinson Ford.His association with Colonel James K Kelley in the war of 1856 and under Colonel Nesbith in the Rogue River war of 1855 marked him as a fearless fight and a tried and true patriot Mr Ford was born in Richmond Va in 1836.When he was a child he went to Bledsoe county,Ark.In 1852 he travelled from Fort Smith to Oregon.He was married to Rachel Bird in 1856 Mr Ford knew personally many of the leading citizens of Oregon the two commanders under whom he fought,Colonels Nesbith and kelley,having been elected to Congress.His association won him many friends .A Few years ago he went east where he remained until his death Besides his widow,who lives in Tualatin,Mr Ford is survived by the following children; Mrs J.W Noble,of Oakland,California,Henry P Ford,formerly sheriff of Washington Co.,now residing in Portland,Mrs J.E Hedges ,Tualatin;Mrs S.Weckert,Sherwood;Mrs h.E jenkins,Portland; and Allen S Ford,Eden Idaho (contibuted by Virgil Weckert) File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/or/statewide/obits/f/ford2282gob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/orfiles/ File size: 1.9 Kb
