Death of Mrs.J.H.Lambert
The funeral of Mrs.J.H.Lambert took place at 1 P.M. yesterday from the family
residence,and was attended by many old frineds and acquaintances.The services
were conducted by Rev.Mr.Fercken,of St.Stephens Episcopal chapel.The pallbearers
were Alfred Lewelling,Graham Glass,Mr.Scott,J.R.N.Sellwood,Tyler Woodward and
l.M.Parrish.Mrs.Lambert was one of the erly  and honored pioneer women of
Oregon.She passed peacefully aay Thursday afternoon at her home,corner of
Eleventh and Market streets,in this city.She was born in Indiana,February
24,1839,and crossed the plains with her parents,Mr.and Mrs.Henry Miller,in
wagons drawn bu oxen,in 1853,and participated in all the hardship,privations and
interesting experiences incident to early pioneer life in Oregon.A few years
after arriving her she ws married to the young,sturdy and industrious
pioneer,Mr.Joseph Lambert,of Milwaukie.The deceased had been a great,though
patient and uncomplaining sufferer.She died as she had lived-peacefully and
surrounded by her sorrowing sons and daughters-a loving wife,a fond mother and a
true and noble woman.Mrs.Lambert leaves a family of six daughters and two
sons,Albert and Henry,Mrs.E.L.E.White,Mrs.A.B.Graham and Nellie,Bessie,Lucy,and
Grace Lambert.Her parents are still living and reside at the corner of
Seventeenth and Jefferson streets.Few of the early pioneers are better known tan
these two who have lived to bury the first of their eight children at the age of 54.
