An Ol Man Is Killed
A Gallon of Whiskey Causes a Murer In Sherman County

The home of Joe Elliott,four miles northwest of Kent,Sherman county,was a 
scene of considerable excitement Tuesay night of last week,and it resulted in 
the death of an old man named John Kennaflick.A gallon of whiskey was brought 
up from Jim Tomlin's saloon at Moore,and on the above night John Kennafleck,Al 
Hembree, and Joe Elliott assembled at the latter's house to hae a "time".They 
sat down to a game of cards,but when the whiskey got to be master of the 
situation a dispute arose over the cards,which was followed by a vigorous 
row,in which Al Hembree hit Kennafleck on the head with some kind of 
weapon,cracking his skull from the back part of his head ot the left eye.It 
did not seem to affect Kennefleck very much at the time,and,after being helped 
on his horse.he rode off toward his home,three or four miles away.On the 
following Thirsday,Elliott went over to see how thw owunded man was getting 
along,but when he got near the latter's house,he found Kennafleck lying in the 
road dead. The ground around there showed that the man had fallen from his 
horse,srambled to his feet,walked ten or twelve yards,fell again,and writhed 
in agony until expired.Hembree said he hit Kennafleck with hisfist,but Elliott 
says he hit him with something bright looking,but could not ell it what it 
was.At last  account,Hembree had not been arrested.He has a family of a wife 
and three or four little children.Kennafleck was an ex convict,having been 
sent up for killinga  man once,but was pardoned out by the governor.
