He had arrived last night from Baker City in company with his sister,Mrs.F.M.Alfred, and brother,Thomas Hoffman,of Eugene. When the latter attempted to wke his brother this morning he wa sdead,presumably from heart disease and a complication of disorders. James Hoffman was a native of Illinois. At the age of 20 he drove a pack train in Eastern Oregon and into the mines of Idaho.Often he camped along the Umatilla,where Pendleton now stands. In later years he removed to Eugene,where,together with his brothers,he acquired much property,being part owner of the Hoffamn House. He had arrived in the city a few weeks ago from Eugene for the benefit of his health,which was falling rapidly.The remians were shipped toonight to Eugene for burial.
