Unnoticed, she went over to one corner of the wasiting room and laid her bundle down on the seat, while she took a bottle of medicine from her pocket and prepared to administr some to her child. An exclamation of horror attracted the people in the room to the spot, and they found the young mother standing with a dead infant in her arms. The poor woman was turned over to the city board of charities, and the remains were taken in charge by Coroner Holman.Mrs.Farris states that she came ot this country from Assyria two years ago.Soon after her arrival she married a man whom she has been forced to support unitl about six months ago, when he left her in Moscow,Idaho. For the past thre emonths the child has been sicj, and the poor mother has been struggling for sufficient mwans to give it proper nourishment and medicine. She came ot Portland in hopes that the milder climate might bring back the child's health, but it is probable that death came to its relief beofre it mother alighted from the train.
