All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/or/orfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Sheron Faynor nitwittwin@hotmail.com September 3, 2007, 11:06 am Oregonian March 1,1893 Imoposing Burial Services Martin H.Drake,of Ashland,Interred at Jacksonville Jacksonville,Or.,March 1-The funeral of Martin H.Drake,a citizen of Ashland,who was accidentally killed near Fort Laramie by falling from a moving train while en route to Kansas City,took place here today.Mr.Drake was a pioneer of Southern Oregon having located on a donation land claim on Applegate creek in 1853.He was a memberof the Pioner Society of Southern Oregon and o fhte I.O.O.F.,the encampment and Rebekah order.The funeral took place from the Presbyterian church,Rev.Robert McLean,of Gran't Pass,conducting the services.Odd feloows and Rebekahs from all the lodges of Rogue river valley attended,and the funeral procession was the largest and most imposing ever seen in the county.The burial services were conducted by Grand Master Helman,assisted by Past Grand Master Patraich Day.Mr.Drake was a highly respected citizen,energetic and industrious,and was for several years county commission of this county.He leaves a wife and familyof young children. Mr.Drake left his family at Ashland about a week ago and started for Eastern Oregon on Business.The family had noknowledge of his going further east,and his death has caused some specualtion as to how he happened to be in Wyoming.
