Found Dead In Bed
SuddenDeath of Miss Bachtold Yesterday Afternoon
About 1 o'clock yesterday afternoon Miss Ida Bachtold was found deadin her bed 
in the Willaim Tell house,at 249 Fifth street.She ahd been living with the 
family of Robert Buetibofer,who conducts the hotle,for about two 
years,Mrs.Buetiboefer being her cousin.She assisted in the kitchen,and Thursay 
night cooked supper.She complained of feeling ill,and retired about ten 
o'clock.Before doing so,however,she took a dose of verlian.About 6 o'clock 
yesterday morning Mrs Buetibofer arose,but ascertaining that her cousin was 
not well,lt her remain in bed.Several visits were paid to her room during the 
morning,but she always seemed to be sleeping.About 1 o'clock Mrs.Beutibofer 
concluded to awaken Bachtold,but when she went to the room found her cold in 
death.She was lying ina cramped psoition and there were indications that she 
had been in terrible agony.
Coroner Holman was notified,and he caused the body to be removed to the 
morgue,where an inquest was begun last night.However,owing to the fact that 
Dr.Fenton could not then hold an autopsy and prepare a report to the jury,the 
matter went over until otday.
Miss Bachtold was about 20 years olad and a native of Switzerland.She was 
subject to ailments that at times caused her intense suffering.To relieve this 
she took valerian,and as this drug,when taken in excessive quantities,will 
produce death,it is possible that while suffering she took an overdose.Her 
parents live at Canby.
