Burch died at Independence this morning of kidney trouble. Captain Burch was about seventy yers of age and came to this country in '45. He was a member of the Oregon constitutional convention, which was held in this city, February,1859. The Hon.R.P.Boise, of this city, was also a member of this convention, of which Judge Deady, who also died this morning, was its presiding officer. During the Yakima INdian War, Captain Burch was captain of company B., second regiment, in command of Colonel Thos. Cornelius. Thi scompany and regiment was in the famous Snake River campaign, as was the company of Captain e.J. harding, of Fairfield. They all subsisted on alkili water and mule meat for eighteen days, and come very near dying of starvation and thirst; Captain Burch was seeral times a representative from Polk county, and once a member and president of the senate. He was superintendent of the penintentiary, being appointed by Governor Chadwick, at the expiration of the term of W.H. Watkinds, and was succeeded by Hon. Ashael Bush, during the term of Governor Thayer. President Cleveland appointed him receiver of the Oregon City land office in 1886, and he held the office over five years. Captain Burch was a fine amn, and old pioneers will very much regret his death.
