It is situated on the hill north of Klamath Union High School and adjoins the original I.O.O.F. Cemetery which is included in this publication. The cemetery is fenced and well tended by the cemetery district. It is a pleasant cemetery with numerous trees and shrubs lining the numerous plots. Some cedars have become so large as to obscure the graves which they have marked. The Linkville Cemetery Association acquired the twenty (20) acres of land comprising the cemetery from B.F. Crouch and his wife, E.J. Crouch on August 1, 1885. Mr. Crouch sold the land for the sum of Forty Dollars. The deed, recorded in Deed Book Vol. 2, page 360, - shows the legal description as follows: The East half of the North West quarter of the South East quarter of Sec. 29. T38S, R.9.E. Willamette Meredian in Klamath County, Oregon, containing twenty (20) acres, the same to be used for Cemetery purposes. The earliest burials, according to cemetery record, were in 1872. SMITH, Sara M., Oct. 21, 1872, age 2 mo. 7 ds. MILLER, Henry F., born in Coshoclan Co., Ohio, July 3, 1829; Killed by Modoc Indians, Oct. 29, 1872 Among the longest-lived persons, several right at 100 years, was Robert Thomas BALDWIN who was born July 13, 1795. He died June 1889. His is the earliest birth date in cemetery records. It is possible that there were burials prior to 1872; there are over 300 unknown burials from the "early days" for which the cemetery has no data whatsoever. A large monument near the cemetery entrance reads: ERECTED to the Memory of the Unknown Pioneers Sleeping Here Also near the entrance is found a flagpole with the following inscription: Erected by The American Legion and Auxiliary In Memory of Our Deceased Members May 30, 1960 Linkville Cemetery was copied July 1982 by Karen Woodwick, Carol Crandell, Bertra Bratton, Ruth Van Order, Lauretta Kinnan, and June Cook - all members of the Klamath Basin Genealogical Society. The information given here is a compilation of inscriptions from headstones, temporary markers, and cemetery records. Cemetery record research was done by Carol Crandell with the assistance of Gene Webb, cemetery superintendent. Manuscript preparation by Carol Crandell. The following abbreviations are found in this record: CR - cemetery record NS - no headstone, infor from temporary marker WARDS - Ward's Klamath Funeral Home KLAM - Klamath Memorial Park O'HAIRS - O'Hairs Funeral Chapel Link. - Linkville Cemetery (seen on some ground markers) Grave location is indicated by numbers which refer to block, plot, and lot. Example: (16-2-35) would be read, Block 16, Plot 2, Lot 35. ****************************** K-L-M KAFOWRY Abraham (37-5-39) NS KAFTON Elona, 1886-1946, (bur 2-13-46 CR) (32-4-17) KAHLER Marie Frances, aged 47 yrs, 7 mos. 4 days.
