R., Jacksonville (Oregon) Democratic Times, Friday, 12 Apr 1878, p. 3: In Jacksonville, of Consumption, M. R. Fletcher, aged about 52 years. Deceased was an old citizen of this place, and a universally respected one. He came to this place in 1852, and has resided here continuously since. For the past 12 or 14 years he has served in various positions of trust and honor and none can say that he was other than an honest and faithful man and employe, though he failed to accumulate sufficient means to sustain himself properly in his long and painful illness of many months. He was a native of Ohio, where relatives are now living, who will hear of his death with little less of sorrow and regret than was evinced among his numerous friends here, many of whom have known him from their infancy.
