Last week M. S. Wood, our last veteran of the Civil war in this neighborhood 
was taken to the home of his son Walter Wood and Sunday morning he passed away 
at the age of 87 years last October. He leaves his son Walter and two married 
daughters, and Miss Mamie Hawf [sic] of Los Angeles came up and is here at 
this writing, Monday afternoon, but the other daughter had not arrived at last 
account. I met Mrs. Hawfs [sic] this morning.

Name of decedent obtained from other local sources. Daughter's married name is 
Mayme Hawes.
