White, pioneer of Rogue River valley and a resident of the Gold Hill district, passed away at Long Beach, Calif., June 21, at the age of 68 years, 6 months, 10 days. Deceased was born in Michigan in 1853, and when five years of age, he, with his parents, came to Oregon, by way of Panama, landing at Crescent City, Cal. Four years later the family moved to Canionville [sic], but soon came back to Rogue River, and later built the hotel where the Del Rio orchards are now located at Rock Point. Mr. White's mother prepared the first meal for the California-Oregon Stage Co., in the cow creek mountains and also the last one at Rock Point before the stage company gave way to the railroad. The deceased leaves one daughter and one son, Mrs. E. J. Hottenroth, Haynes, Cal., and Harry B. White, Calexico, Cal. The remains were brought to Gold Hill and funeral services in charge of Weeks-Conger Co., were held at the Rock Point cemetery at 10 a.m. Sunday.
