Talent, who passed away in 1913. She was the mother of eleven children, five of whom survive: Mrs. N. J. Hendrickson of Victoria, B. C., Mrs. E. R. Oatman of Medford, J. O. Talent of Brownsville, Ore.; Charles P. Talent of Grant's Pass and Mrs. J. D. Beeson of Medford. Since her husband's death she has made her home with her youngest daughter, Mrs. J. D. Beeson. She was a bed invalid for the past three and a half years. Through all of her suffering she was patient until the last. She was converted and united with the Baptist church in her youth, and lived a good and consistent life. She has lived in Rogue River valley since 1875, and leaves a host of friends. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, June 3, at 2 p.m., at the Conger Funeral Parlors with interment in Ashland cemetery. TALENT, Martha Jane, Medford (Oregon) Mail Tribune, Friday, 5 Jun 1925, p. 2: The little town of Talent today feels the loss of another one of her early pioneers. In the death of Mrs. Martha Jane Talent we mourn the passing of one who was very dear to the hearts of many of Talent's old settlers. Mr. and Mrs. Talent were the founders of the town of Talent. They kept the first postoffice this side of Ashland, long before Medford came into existence. They took the mail from the old stage coach. They also built the first store. In Talent as in Medford they both were the staunchest of Christian workers. Their home was always open to strangers. Mr. Talent built a number of business houses in Talent as well as a number of fine homes, which he sold at different times. Beloved and trusted by all, they will forever remain in our memories. Few persons enjoyed the true Christian reverence that both Mr. and Mrs. Talent always enjoyed among their fellow men. This Christian spirit was the consolation of both these worthy Christians in their last moments. Interment in the family plot at Ashland.
