Y., was received by her mother, Mrs. A. R. Phipps, of this city, last Saturday afternoon. She was married at Jacksonville Monday, Jan. 28th, of this year, to Peter Spielman, and left the following day for their future home in New York. She had been troubled with rheumatism for some time, and when Portland was reached on their journey she could not proceed until medical aid had been procured. During the long journey to New York she became much worse, and upon their arrival at their destination she was in a serious condition, her fever having reached 104-1/2 degrees, at which point it remained until her death, last Saturday morning. At this time no particulars can be learned regarding the sad affair beyond the facts above stated. Her mother, who is heart broken over her loss, has made arrangements for the shipment of the remains to this place for interment in the family burial lot in the Odd Fellows cemetery, but we are unable to state with certainty when they will arrive. She was fifteen years of age, and highly respected by her friends and acquaintances in this city and the news of her sudden death was a great shock to them. Much sympathy is felt for the grief-stricken mother, and kind friends are rendering every assistance possible. Medford (Oregon) Mail, Friday, 1 Mar 1901, City Happenings, p. 7, c. 3 Peter Spielman arrived in Medford Monday morning with the remains of his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Spielman, whose death at Attica, New York, last week, was announced in The Mail. The funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the residence of her mother, Mrs. A. R. Phipps, of East Medford, Rev. O. J. Gist, officiating. Mrs. Spielman was but fifteen years and four months old at the time of her sad death, and her sudden demise is a severe blow to her family, who have the deepest sympathy of all in their sorrow. Interment was made in the Odd Fellows cemetery at this place, the funeral being largely attended by friends and acquaintances of the family.
