Jackson S. Smith, Presbyterian minister of Butte Falls, died in a local hospital early this morning after a short illness from pneumonia. He was 59 y ears old. Mr. Smith was born at Locust, N. C., on July 29, 1879. He spent his earlier years in North Carolina and gained his education there. He married Pearl Hastings at Maryville, Tenn., on April 27, 1913. The same year he entered the ministry, his first church being at Marshall, N. C., where he stayed for three years. He spent three years in Indiana, and three in the Hawaiian islands. He served in different cities of California for ten years. The last six years he spent at Butte Falls. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Pearl Smith, and four children: Mrs. Helen O’Donahue of Klamath Falls, and Rose, Frances and Theodore Smith of Butte Falls; a sister, Mrs. Jane Hunycutt of Southmont, N. C.; and a brother, John Smith of Albemarle, N. C. Funeral services under direction of the Perl Funeral home will be held in the Presbyterian church at Eagle Point Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock, the Rev. A. L. Whitsett of Ashland officiating. Interment will take place in the Butte Falls cemetery.
