Charles W. Root, an Ashland pioneer aged 71 years, a native of Ohio, died at 
his home in that city last night of paralysis. Mr. Root was a civil engineer 
of considerable renown, and helped construct the Western Pacific railway. He 
is survived by his wife. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
