George A. Piper died October 7, 1900, at the home of his old friend and 
schoolmate, August Moore, near Phoenix. He was born in Stratham, N. H., in 
1834, and was a descendant from the old colonial stock, his father having 
commanded a regiment in the war of 1812. He came to California in 1849, where 
he engaged in mining, and had a large share in developing the mines of the 
Pacific states. He was honest and upright in all his dealings with men, a 
good, staunch friend and a consistent gentleman. The funeral services were 
conducted in the Presbyterian Church by Rev. Wm. Clyde, after which the 
remains were laid to rest in the Phoenix cemetery.
