Medford (Oregon) Mail, Friday, 1 Nov 1900, Jacksonville News, p. 3, c. 2 
The funeral of the late Samuel Phillips was conducted at the family residence, 
on Mill street, on Friday, October 25th, at 2:30 p. m., Rev. S. H. Jones 
officiating. A large concourse of friends followed the remains to the 
Jacksonville Cemetery, where a brief burial service was held. Deceased came to 
Jackson County in 1852. He was a man of excellent attainments, lived an 
upright and consistent life, and was highly respected. A wife, son, daughter 
and two step daughters survive him.
