Newman, 81 years and 2 days old, died at his home, 207 West Knight street, at 4 a. m. Saturday, Nov. 3, from the infirmities of old age. He had been a resident of Oregon for the past seven years and had resided in Medford for the past five years, having come to the coast from his former home at Grayling, Mich. He was a member of the Masonic lodge at Grayling for 46 years, and was a member of the Royal Arch Masons and the G. A. R., having served during the civil war with Company E, Fifteenth Michigan infantry. At Grayling he had served as county surveyor, township trustee and deputy sheriff and had held other positions of public trust. Mr. Newman is survived by his wife, Katherine, to whom he had been married for 56 years, and four children, who are Albert Newman, Jr., of Medford, Mrs. Flora Baker of Addison, Mich., Mrs. Mary Holbrook of Grayling, Mich., and Mrs. Lottie Raymond of Patricks Creek, Calif.
