McKee, aged pioneer of Jackson county, died in this city yesterday. He is survived by one son, Ralph, of Phoenix, and Maude Donnser of Prairie City. Funeral services will be held today, with burial at the Logtown cemetery at 2 p.m. Mr. McKee was born at Phoenix, April 4, 1857, and has resided in Oregon all his life. He was one of the earliest citizens and has watched the growth of the southern part of the state with interest but has never participated officially in its development. Prior to his death he was a prominent fruit grower of Applegate. Tales of his early life as related by the old pioneer to his friends, are of the turbulent life confronted by the early settler. At the time of the arrival of the McKee family to Oregon, but little more existed than Indians and timber, and McKee told often of how his mother hid him from the invading Indians until aid from the U.S. fort that was once situated in the valley, would arrive to subdue them.
