All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/or/orfiles.htm ********************************************************************************* Transcribed and formatted for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Elizabeth Oct 2002 ************************************************************************ McKEE, John, Medford (Oregon) Sun, Thursday, 16 Feb 1911, p. 1 -- John M'Kee Dies At Eagle Point - Came to Jacksonville as a Miner in 1953 - Lived on Forest Creek Until Twenty Years Ago, When He Removed To Big Butte -- John McKee, who had been a resident of Rogue river valley since 1853, passed away yesterday at the advanced age of eighty-three at Eagle Point. His death occurred at 2:30 o'clock. The cause assigned was general debility. Mr. McKee was twenty-six years of age when he came to Jacksonville. He located on Forest creek, went of Jacksonville, and for many years followed the vocation of mining. He was an important factor in the history of the country and took part in all the stirring events of the pioneer days, including the Indian wars, which figure in the fame of southern Oregon. He lived on Forest creek until twenty years ago, and his remains will be taken back there to the old McKee cemetery for burial. His removal was to Big Butte, where he had resided ever since. He leaves nine sons and daughters, as follows: A. D. McKee, and A. M. McKee of Applegate, George McKee of Grant county, W. H McKee of Klamath Falls, John McKee, Mrs. Emma Fredenburg and Mrs. John Higginbotham of Big Butte, Mrs. King of Ashland, Mrs. Fort Hubbard of Medford. He was born in Logan county, Ohio, and removed to Missouri before coming to Oregon. The remains were brought to Medford yesterday evening by Undertaker John Perl. The funeral probably will be held tomorrow.
