McGowan, long-time resident of Medford where he was active in business and fraternal affairs for many years, passed away in a local hospital at [-?-] Saturday at the age of 86. Hew as born at Harrisburg, Pa., Dec. 7, 1857. At the age of 30 he came went and resided in Seattle for two years before coming to Medford 54 years ago, where he has since resided. Soon after his arrival here he was married to Nellie Weeks who survives him. Mr. McGowan was a long-time, active member of the Medford Masonic lodge, of which he was past master. Also active in the Commandery and Shrine of Ashland and the B.P.O. Elks of Medford, and a member of the Presbyterian church of Medford. Mr. McGowan was first engaged in the china and crockery business in Medford and later was a partner in the Weeks & McGowan furniture business, from which he retired about 25 years ago. Besides his wife, he leaves two brothers and one sister in Harrisburg, Pa. Funeral services will be held in the Conger-Morris chapel at 3 p.m. Friday with the Rev. Harry Hansen officiating, assisted by the Medford Masonic lodge. A guard of honor will consist of members of the Commandery and pallbearers from the Medford Masonic lodge. The remains will be cremated later.
